Hops

Hops (Humulus lupulus) is an herbaceous perennial vine belonging to the Cannabinaceae family. Native species, along with cultivated varieties, are successfully grown in North Dakota; however, there is a lack of research on the yield and quality of this unique commodity. Hops have been grown at the Williston Research Extension Center since 2009, but with recent funding from the USDA Specialty Crop Block Project a variety trial has been initiated. Twelve popular varieties will be grown in a replicated complete block design trial set up on a high trellis.
