2nd NDSU Annual Conference on Food for Health

2nd NDSU Food for Health conference was hosted by GIFSIA, NDSU at Ramada Plaza Suites and Conference Hall, Fargo, North Dakota, USA from July 10-13, 2016. Thirty six participants (academia, industry, and local farmers) from eight different countries were participated and presented on diverse topics focusing on “food for health” challenges.  The primary agenda of the conference was to canvas new innovations and technologies to advance agriculture, horticulture, food science, food processing, ethnic foods, and fermentation sciences for addressing global food and nutritional security challenges coupled with global public health challenges. Two separate forums were organized to discuss i) challenges and opportunities of organic and non-organic commodity food crop production with local North Dakota & Minnesota Growers, and ii) the importance of  Indigenous Native American Food Systems to address Public Health challenges with American Indian Public Health Department (NDSU), & representatives from White Earth Tribal Community (Minnesota). A strong network of local and global scientists, industry professionals, and farmers has been built from this conference to advance long-term research and educational partnerships and collaborations and to continue constructive dialogues focusing on food security, food safety, and global public health challenges.
