Soil Health

Healthy soils are crucial to production agriculture.  Many issues that face North Dakota includes soil salinity, erosion, fertility, sodicity, and water management.  The NDSU Area Specialist/Soil Health helps producers improve their soil resources through research based educational workshops, one-on-one consultations, presentations, and articles.

Recent educational activities include: Soil Salinity Field Day, 4-H/FFA Land Judging, several soil pits, and County Agent Trainings.

Past research projects included: cover cropping, evaluating plant salinity tolerances, salinity mitigation through cropping and drainage systems, soil disturbance reclamation (pipeline), and various fertility trials.
