Board Members Responsibilities
This list provides a number of the responsibilities a board member will be expected to fulfill.
- Know the organizations’ mission and purpose
- Approve and monitor the organizations programs and services
- Ensure effective fiscal management
- Fundraise
- Organize so the board operates effectively
- Select and/or support the executive and review his or her performance
- Develop as a board and enhance the organization’s public image
- Ensure sound risk-management practices are used
- Serve as an arbitrator of conflicts that arise within the organization
- Serve in a leadership role if asked and accept assignments as directed
- Maintain confidentiality
- Serve the broader community instead of a small group of people with special interests
- Be fair and impartial when making decisions
- Avoid even the appearance of a conflict of interest
