NDSU Extension, UMN Extension to host lamb trade and economics webinar on March 18

The webinar will include an overview of international lamb trade in 2025 and highlight opportunities for U.S. lamb industry members in 2026.

North Dakota State University Extension and the University of Minnesota Extension will host an International Lamb Trade and Economics webinar on March 18 at 7 p.m. Farmers, ranchers, 4-H members, agriculture business professionals and anyone else interested in goats or sheep are invited to attend.

“Our domestic lamb consumption is growing by quantity and value,” says Travis Hoffman, sheep specialist for NDSU Extension and UMN Extension. “Yet, our lamb industry hinges on markets at a global level, and imports and exports affect our producers.”

The webinar will feature two speakers from the U.S. Meat Export Federation. The trade association is responsible for developing international markets for the U.S. red meat industry.

Jessica Spreitzer, director of trade analysis, and Courtney Heller, director of export services, will provide a summary of international lamb trade in 2025 and opportunities for success in 2026. Spreitzer and Heller work with a wide variety of information to provide analysis on the U.S. red meat industry and global trade to both domestic and international stakeholders.

“Participants will learn how global lamb marketing affects what happens on our local sheep operations,” says Brenda Miller, UMN Extension livestock educator.

Registration is required and can be found at ndsu.ag/lamb-econ-26. A Zoom link will be emailed to participants upon registration. Those unable to attend the live session will receive the recording via email.
