NDSU sets Dickinson Research Extension Center Field Day for July 9

Sessions include lentil production, pollinator gardens and herbicide-resistant weeds.

North Dakota State University’s Dickinson Research Extension Center will host an agronomy-focused field day on July 9 in Dickinson, North Dakota.

The event begins at 4 p.m. MDT at the Dickinson Research Extension Center with a meal.

“This field day offers something for all the North Dakotans we serve,” Chris Augustin, director of the center. “From groundbreaking agronomy research updates and horticulture insights for homeowners to STEM activities for our future, the Dickinson Research Extension Center will provide valuable learning opportunities for all who attend.”

Three sessions will follow the meal: an agronomy tour, a 4-H youth event and a horticulture tour.

Presenters and topics for the agronomy tour are the following:

  • Increasing Corn Profits Via Seeding Rate – Claire Keene, NDSU agronomist, and Kayla Ehlis, corn agronomy researcher
  • Soil Amendments for Corn Production – Sudip Chhetri, graduate research assistant at the Dickinson Research Extension Center
  • Crafting Cover Crop Cocktails – Alexis Correira, conservation agronomist at the Dickinson Research Extension Center
  • Herbicide-resistant Weed Management – Brian Jenks, weed scientist at NDSU's North Central Research Extension Center
  • Lentil Production – Krishna Katuwal, research agronomist at the Dickinson Research Extension Center

Presenters and topics for the horticulture tour are the following:

  • So You Want to Plant a Pollinator Garden – Emily How, NDSU Extension horticulture agent in Ward County
  • Fruits to Grow in North Dakota – Elizabeth Krause, fruit project manager at NDSU's Carrington Research Extension Center

The 4-H youth event will feature various STEM activities, and participants will make root beer. The session will be led by Marilyn Larsen, NDSU Extension family and community wellness agent in Stark-Billings County.
