NDSU Extension and Trusted Advisor Partnership to host on-farm soil field day on Sept. 3

The session and field tour will cover soil and cover crop management topics relevant to North Dakota producers, agronomists, consultants and industry personnel.

North Dakota State University Extension, in partnership with the Trusted Advisor Partnership – Northern Plains, will host the End of Summer Soils Field Day on Sept. 3, from 8:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. CST. The field day will be held 7.5 miles southeast of Wyndmere, North Dakota.

Participants will hear from researchers, NDSU Extension personnel and consultants on topics including soil fertility, soil testing, cover crop management and on-farm soil management practices.

“We have a great lineup of speakers with different experiences and specialties coming together for this field day, from agronomy and fertility to cover crops and cattle, all with the common goal of improving soil management in North Dakota,” says Brady Goettl, NDSU Extension soil science specialist.

Sessions begin at 9 a.m. with topics ranging from Richland County soils to cover crop economics. A discussion-based field portion focusing on field management following small grain harvest, cover crops and cattle will be followed by lunch to end the day.

"Good soil management benefits from bringing different perspectives and experiences together," says Erin Gundy, Trusted Advisor Partnership program coordinator. "This field day gives producers and advisors an opportunity to learn, ask questions and share knowledge on-farm."

The event is free to attend with lunch sponsored by the Trusted Advisor Partnership. Registration and event agenda are available at ndsu.ag/soilsfieldday. Registration is requested by the end of Aug. 31 to ensure a free lunch, and all other registration closes on Sept. 2 at 5 p.m. CST.

Certified Crop Advisers can earn three Continuing Education Units (CEUs) for attending the field day.
