Estepp joins Extension as gerontology specialist

Estepp is passionate about addressing emerging issues and expanding outreach in rural and underserved communities.

Philip Estepp has joined North Dakota State University Extension as the gerontology specialist. He began Oct. 1, serving both North Dakota and South Dakota.

Estepp is currently teaching a research methods course for NDSU’s Human Development and Family Science department. He has clinical work experience in mental health and has taught other courses at various universities.

“My goal is to provide high-quality educational resources and programming for older adults and their families throughout the Dakotas,” says Estepp.

He’s particularly passionate about addressing emerging issues and expanding outreach to older adults in rural and underserved communities.

“His perspectives on working across disciplines and systems will make him a great fit for this position,” says Carrie Johnson, assistant director of Family and Community Wellness.

Estepp enjoys connecting with people and learning about the unique challenges and opportunities they see in their communities. He says he’s excited to hear from residents in both small towns and larger urban centers.

Estepp has a bachelor’s degree in psychology from Clemson University and a master’s in human development and counselor education from Radford University. He is currently finishing his Ph.D. in developmental science and gerontology at NDSU.
