Lake Region Extension Roundup set for Jan. 7-8

The 2026 Lake Region Extension Roundup will be held Jan. 7-8 at the Memorial Building in Devils Lake, North Dakota.
The annual event, hosted by North Dakota State University Extension county offices surrounding Devils Lake, covers a wide range of agricultural production topics.
“A tradition of many years, the Lake Region Extension Roundup provides area farmers and ranchers with the most up-to-date information to prepare for the upcoming season,” says Lindsay Overmyer, NDSU Extension agent in Ramsey County. “It is where the Lake Region comes together to network with Extension, industry and their neighbors.”
Both days start with a complimentary breakfast at 8 a.m. General and concurrent sessions begin at 9 a.m. The keynote presentations for the general sessions will take place in the gym of the World War II Memorial Building. Concurrent sessions will be held in the Memorial Building’s basement, the Armory Room and the Historical and Meeting Rooms in the adjoining Ramsey County Courthouse.
At 11 a.m. on Wednesday, one of the most anticipated keynote sessions, “Advocating for Agriculture Online,” will be presented by Greg and Nathan Peterson of the Peterson Farm Brothers. Known nationwide for their agriculture-based parody videos, the brothers will share how they use humor, creativity and social media to tell the story of agriculture.
Keynote topics on Wednesday, Jan. 7, are the following:
- Advocating for agriculture online
- The latest on NDAWN and a look at the 2026 growing season weather
Wednesday’s open/roundtable discussions topics are the following:
- Weed points to ponder
- Soil health
- Specialty crop considerations
- Leveraging current tech and equipment for maximum return
- Rancher panel
Wednesday’s concurrent session topics are the following:
- Small grain variety update
- Soil fertility outlook
- Farmland and equipment market trends
- Cow ratios
- Maximizing the effectiveness of fungicides
The “Farmer Truth: You’re More Important Than the Back 40” panel on Thursday will blend personal farm experiences and mental health expertise to emphasize the importance of farmer well-being.
Other keynote topics on Thursday, Jan. 8, are the following:
- Crop consultant panel
- 2026 crop market outlook update
Thursday’s concurrent session topics are the following:
- Update: Farm program, crop insurance, income tax
- Soybean vigor
- Bioenergy update
- H-2A discussion
- Care and keeping of succulents
More than 35 breakout sessions will be offered across the two days, covering a broad selection of topics, including weed control, specialty crop production, land and machinery values, grain storage, soil health, technology adoption and more. Additionally, more than 45 booth exhibitors will offer resources and services throughout the Memorial Building.
Attending the Lake Region Extension Roundup is free of charge, and no registration is required.
