NDSU to host youth livestock judging workout on Oct. 29

NDSU will host a youth livestock judging workout on Oct. 29, in Shepperd Arena.

Dust off your notepads and sharpen your pencils! It is time to kick off another season of livestock judging.

The North Dakota State University Department of Animal Sciences and the NDSU Judging Club will host the Harvesting Success Livestock Judging Workout on Oct. 29 at NDSU’s Shepperd Arena. All 4-H and FFA youth are encouraged to attend the workout.

The workout classes will be available from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. with six classes available for review, including two beef, two swine and two sheep class. The NDSU livestock units will provide the classes used for the workout.

Official placings will be available for use at the judging coach’s discretion. NDSU Animal Sciences staff and NDSU Judging Club members also will be available for informal reason critiques.

“NDSU is proud to offer a chance for 4-H and FFA members to improve their livestock evaluation skills,” says Travis Hoffman, NDSU Extension sheep specialist. “This will be a great chance for youth to foster their critical thinking, teamwork and oral communication skills.”
