Skurupey named NDSU Extension assistant director for 4-H Youth Development

Skurupey was acting interim chair for the NDSU Extension’s Center of 4-H Youth Development since January, 2021.

Leigh Ann Skurupey has accepted the position of North Dakota State University (NDSU) Extension assistant director for the North Dakota 4-H Youth Development Center and began her duties on July 16.

"I am excited to be part of NDSU Extension leadership as we work together to embody integrity, innovation and to foster positive impact on the lives of youth,” Skurupey says. “I look forward to equipping these future leaders with essential life skills to thrive lead and change the world.”

Skurupey brings more than 10 years of subject-matter experience in youth development and animal sciences to this role. During her time as interim chair for the North Dakota 4-H Youth Development Center, she instituted numerous processes and policies relating to COVID-19 guidance, established a committee to revise and evaluate current ND 4-H policy, established direction and guidance for 4-H councils and clubs for proper IRS tax filing, help secure funds and drive forward the construction of the new pond at the ND 4-H Camp and partnered with the NDSU Admissions Office on the development of the Next Chapter program for 4-H youth. In addition, Skurupey continued to serve as a 4-H youth development specialist.

“Leigh Ann’s experience, problem-solving skills, understanding of the role and her commitment to 4-H youth development will serve our organization well,” says Lynette Flage, associate director for NDSU Extension.

Prior to Skurupey starting at NDSU Extension, she was involved in youth development and animal science programming at the University of Florida and Colorado State University.

Skurupey earned her doctorate and master’s degrees in animal sciences at the University of Florida  and bachelor’s degree in equine science and animal science at Colorado State University.
