N.D. 4-H Foundation Seeking Donations for Outdoor Dining Patio

The dining patio will be built in honor of two longtime Extension agents.

The North Dakota 4-H Foundation has launched a campaign to raise $25,000 to build an outdoor dining patio/gathering space at the North Dakota 4-H Camp near Washburn in honor of Pat Carpentier and ElRoy Haadem, who were longtime North Dakota State University Extension agents.

“Pat Carpentier and ElRoy Haadem dedicated their professional careers to NDSU Extension and many hours to 4-H youth and the North Dakota 4-H Camp,” says Duane Hauck, retired NDSU Extension director. “McLean and Burleigh counties, where they served as lead Extension agents, provided critical staff support needed for the camp to operate and be maintained over the years.

“They also dedicated their personal time and talent to the maintenance and management of the camp by serving on committees and always assisting with spring and fall camp maintenance activities,” Hauck adds.

Carpentier and Haadem died in March 2020.

Carpentier was an NDSU Extension agent from 1967 to 2011. Haadem served as an agent from 1968 to 2011.

The North Dakota 4-H camping program provides a wide range of educational experiences for more than 500 youth each summer. The camp also is available to families and community groups for reunions, classes and other educational and social gatherings.

“The Carpentier/Haadem Memorial Outdoor Dining Patio will provide a positive environment for outdoor dining and learning activities for years to come,” Hauck says.
