Anyone thinking about retirement will have an opportunity to learn more about it through the Purposeful Retirement Online Book Club being hosted by Jane Strommen, North Dakota State University Extension gerontology specialist, and Leacey Brown, South Dakota State University Extension gerontology field specialist.
The book club will meet via Zoom at 11 a.m. Central time every other week for six sessions beginning Sept. 1.
The book for this book club will be “Purposeful Retirement: How to Bring Happiness and Meaning to Your Retirement” by Hyrum W. Smith.
“During each session, Leacey and I will facilitate a group discussion and ask probing questions to encourage attendees to think about retirement in new and exciting ways,” Strommen says.
“This book describes how to think about retirement differently, as a gift of time or gift of opportunity to redirect your life toward the things/people/values that are important to you,” she adds. “Once you identify what is important to you, you can live your life with purpose.”
The group discussion will encourage attendees to explore their personal attitudes and beliefs about retirement, increase their knowledge about how purpose enhances health and wellness, and identify strategies for including purpose in retirement planning, as well as explore goals and priorities for retirement.
Registration is required. The deadline to register is Aug. 7. Visit https://extension.sdstate.edu/event/purposeful-retirement-online-book-club to register.
