NDSU Extension Offers 4-H Volunteer Project Training

Volunteers will be able to gather new 4-H project ideas that create fun learning experiences for all 4-H members.

North Dakota 4-H volunteers inspire youth to explore many 4-H project areas and build their life skills through these experiences.

North Dakota State University Extension’s Center for 4-H Youth Development is offering project training for 4-H volunteers in four North Dakota communities in November.

“Attending one of these events is a great way for teen and adult volunteers to gather new 4-H project ideas that create fun learning experiences for all 4-H members,” says Rachelle Vettern, associate professor and leadership and 4-H volunteer development specialist.

The dates and locations for the training are:

  • Wednesday, Nov. 13, 5:30-8:30 p.m. CST, Finley Sharon School, Finley, N.D.
  • Thursday, Nov. 14, 5:30-8:30 p.m. CST, Metigoshe Ministries Christian Center-Lake Metigoshe, 10605 Lake Loop Road E., Bottineau, N.D.

  • Monday, Nov. 25, 5:30-8:30 p.m. MST, Killdeer School, Killdeer, N.D.

Topics that will covered include:

  • An agricultural challenge breakout using the escape room phenomena to engage 4-H’ers in science and agriculture learning
  • Inspiring 4-H youth to engage in service learning to give them a voice and expand their knowledge
  • Teaching youth to propagate plants as part of the 4-H gardening project
  • Teaching youth an archery woodworking project
  • Strengthening 4-H’ers’ communication arts skills
  • Learning how to utilize fun activities to teach the subject of biosecurity

Information also will be shared on the North Dakota 4-H volunteer impact study.

Volunteers will be able to explore 4-H projects and educational trunks, which contain hands-on lessons, directions and most of the materials needed to conduct a lesson on a particular topic.

“We look forward to seeing many 4-H teen and adult volunteers, parents and caregivers, and NDSU Extension staff at these events,” Vettern says.
