2019 NDSU Soybean Production Meetings Set

The meetings will be held in January in Park River, Lisbon and Hope.

Soybean producers will have an opportunity to learn about the latest research findings and how to manage soybeans at one of North Dakota State University Extension’s three Getting it Right in Soybean Production meetings scheduled for Park River, Lisbon and Hope, N.D., in January.

“Agricultural production systems are very complex and new research information is generated annually,” says Hans Kandel, NDSU Extension agronomist. “With marketing challenges, tight margins and unknown future weather conditions, it is important for producers to gain as much production knowledge as possible. These soybean educational meetings feature research-based information and can help producers with soybean production decisions for the 2019 growing season.”

The meeting dates and locations are:

Speakers include the participating Extension agents; Dave Franzen, NDSU Extension soil specialist; Greg Endres, NDSU Extension cropping systems specialist; and Hans Kandel, NDSU Extension agronomist.

Topics that will be covered include:

  • Factors to consider in selecting soybean fields, updated fertilizer recommendations, what factors contribute to iron deficiency chlorosis and questions about foliar application of micro nutrients
  • Soybean variety selection; the latest information on various production issues, such as the importance of good root nodulation and water management; and the results of a four-year soybean production survey
  • 2019 disease outlook, including an update on soybean cyst nematodes, as well as results of field research conducted in 2018 and information on how to manage soybean diseases
  • Intensive soybean management, no-till and strip-till versus conventional-till methods, planting dates, plant populations and row spacing, special soybean inputs on the market and weed management issues

The North Dakota Soybean Council is sponsoring the Getting it Right in Soybean Production programs and lunch. The council oversees promotion, research and marketing programs funded by soybean checkoff dollars.

The meetings are free of charge. Preregistration is not necessary.
