NDSU Athletes to be Awarded Scholarships During Harvest Bowl

Twelve scholarships will be awarded to outstanding North Dakota State University female and male athletes during this year’s Harvest Bowl festivities Oct. 22-23.

The NDSU Harvest Bowl program also recognizes the outstanding work of agriculturists in 53 counties in North Dakota and several in Minnesota.

A special agribusiness award goes to an individual who has a distinguished record in agriculture and business. This year’s award recipient is Gregg Halverson, international businessman and large-scale potato producer.

The 2010 Harvest Bowl Scholarship recipient is Whitney Carlson, member of the track and field team. Carlson is from Buchanan. The recipient of a Harvest Bowl Scholarship in honor of Robert Johansen is Cody Gronvold, member of the track and field team. Gronvold is from Rugby.

The Bob and Darlene Yaggie Football Scholarship is awarded to Michael Arndt, offensive guard on the NDSU football team. Arndt is from LaMoure. Receiving the Bob Lauf Memorial Scholarship is Janae Burich, center on the basketball team. Burich is from Roseville, Minn.

The Ron and Karen Offutt Scholarship goes to Kenny Moenkedick, member of the wrestling team. Moenkedick is from Perham, Minn. The Red River Commodities Scholarship is awarded to Andy Nagel, forward on the basketball team. Nagel is from Fort Dodge, Iowa.

The John and Kay Dean Scholarship is awarded to Alec Espeland, member of the track and field team. Espeland is from Pierre, S.D. Mathew Gratzek, defensive tackle on the football team, is the recipient of the Bob and Bruce Yaggie Father-Son Scholarship. Gratzek is from Argyle, Minn.

The Darrel Larson Family Scholarship is awarded to Coulter Boyer, defensive end on the football team. Boyer is from Hurley, S.D. The LeVon C. Kirkeide, Patricia Kirkeide-Hagemeister and Friends Scholarship is awarded to Christine (Bruins) Schmaltz, member of the track and field team. She is from Watford City.

Andrew Grothmann, member of the football team, is the recipient of the Scott and Ann Dau Family Scholarship. Grothmann is from Hillsboro. The Titan Machinery Scholarship is awarded to Kristen Killoran, member of the track and field team. Killoran is from Casselton.

The 37th annual Harvest Bowl festivities begin Friday, Oct. 22, at the Fargo Ramada Plaza and Suites with a dinner and awards ceremony. On Saturday, honorees will participate in educational sessions on the NDSU campus and attend the Harvest Bowl football game.
