NDSU Equestrian Team Members Advance

NDSU equestrian team members advance to semifinal competition.

Three members of North Dakota State University’s Western equestrian team have earned a trip to semifinal competition at Cal Poly in Pomona, Calif., at the end of March.

Those advancing to the semifinal competition are juniors Jenna Benjaminson of Walhalla and Sara Holman of Glyndon, Minn., and freshman Juliann Zach of Rosholt, S.D.

They were among eight members of the team who competed at a postseason regional horse show hosted by the University of Minnesota-Crookston on March 7. To advance in postseason competition, exhibitors must place first or second in their classes.

Benjaminson won first place in novice horsemanship in the Crookston event. Holman placed second in advanced horsemanship. Zach took second in walk trot horsemanship.

Others placing at the Crookston event were:

  • Open horsemanship - Janelle Lanoue, junior, Alexandria, Minn., fifth
  • Novice horsemanship - Amanda Grev, junior, Rochester, Minn., fifth; Shannon Voges, junior, Courtland, Minn., sixth
  • Intermediate horsemanship - Megan Mueller, freshman, Hillsboro, sixth; Alyssa Jorgenson, junior, West Fargo, honorable mention
