Katie Tyler will join the North Dakota State University Extension Service as a 4-H youth development specialist.

She will be housed at NDSU’s North Central Research Extension Center near Minot. She starts July 6.

As an Extension 4-H specialist, she will provide statewide leadership for positive youth development programs related to youth citizenship. This includes the components of community service, youth leadership, civic education, youth in governance, youth volunteerism, public speaking, service learning, youth voice, youth-adult partnerships and youth entrepreneurship.

She’ll also work with 4-H youth development programs showcased at the North Dakota State Fair and the statewide camping program at the Western 4-H Camp near Washburn.

Tyler has a bachelor of science degree in biology and a master of science degree in educational leadership, both from the University of North Dakota in Grand Forks.

She has been serving as an associate director of student activities for operations at Philadelphia University and has some college-level teaching experience at the same institution.

“We’re pleased that Katie will be joining the Center for 4-H Youth Development as an Extension specialist leading our 4-H youth development work in citizenship and leadership,” says Brad Cogdill, the center’s chair. “We’re also looking forward to having 4-H specialist resources located at Minot to better support our 4-H youth program efforts across the state.”
