NDSU Riders Place in National Competition

Two NDSU equestrian team members place in their first trip to national competition.

Two members of North Dakota State University’s equestrian team placed in the top 10 in their class at the Intercollegiate Horse Show Association’s recent national horse show in Lexington, Ky.

Freshman Juliann Zach of Rosholt, S.D., placed seventh in beginner horsemanship. Junior Sara Holman of Glyndon, Minn., placed 10th in advanced horsemanship.

“This was the first trip to nationals for both Sara and Juliann,” says Tara Swanson, the team’s coach. “They rose to the occasion, showing poise, confidence and talent in their performances. The girls made me proud and represented NDSU well.”

Holman and Zach faced stiff competition, according to Swanson.

Zach and Holman advanced to the national competition after being one of the top four finishers in their class at the IHSA’s Western semifinals in Pomona, Calif., earlier this year. Holman took first place in advanced horsemanship and Zach placed third in beginner horsemanship in that event.
