NDSU Riders Advance to National Competition

NDSU equestrian team members place in semifinal competition.

All three North Dakota State University equestrian team members who competed in the recent Intercollegiate Horse Show Association’s Western semifinals in Pomona, Calif., placed in their respective classes.

Junior Sara Holman of Glyndon, Minn., took first place in advanced horsemanship. Freshman Juliann Zach of Rosholt, S.D., placed third in walk trot horsemanship. Junior Jenna Benjaminson of Walhalla received honorable mention in novice horsemanship.

The top four in each class advance to the IHSA national competition May 6-9 in Lexington, Ky.

NDSU’s equestrian team members competed against 13 to 17 other riders in each class.

“The girls put in a lot of hard work to get to this level of competition and had a great showing against some very strong individuals,” says Tara Swanson, the team’s coach.
