NDSU Releases Weed Barrier Video

NDSU releases video on the use and maintenance of weed barrier fabric for trees.

A video on the use and maintenance of polypropylene weed barrier fabric for trees is available from the North Dakota State University Extension Service.

“The video explains annual weed barrier maintenance requirements when used in tree plantings,” says Julie Kramlich, NDSU Adams County Extension agent. “It also explains how the weed barrier may need to be removed after a certain period of time for the optimum growth and health of the trees.”

The various methods for removing the weed barrier are explained in the video. The video also shows examples of potential damage that can occur in weed barrier plantings that are not maintained or left around the trees too long.

Alternative tree care methods are detailed in the video, as well as how to care for the soil between the rows of trees.

The video can be accessed or downloaded at http://www.ag.ndsu.nodak.edu/hettinge/economics.htm.

The video was produced by the Adams County Soil Conservation District, Adams County Extension office, NDSU Hettinger Research Extension Center and NDSU Agriculture Communication Department.
