NDSU’s Hettinger Research Extension Center Schedules Beef Research Review

The NDSU Hettinger Research Extension Center will hold its first beef research review, “Developing and Enriching the Region’s Production Resources for a More Profitable Future.”

The North Dakota State University Hettinger Research Extension Center will hold its first beef research review, “Developing and Enriching the Region’s Production Resources for a More Profitable Future” on Thursday, Jan. 10. The event will be held at the center from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. MST.

The seminar will highlight beef cattle research conducted at the HREC and NDSU during the past year.

Topics to be covered include:

  • Weaning date of calves born in May
  • Use of spatial analysis to locate feedlots
  • Rate of gain impacts on feedlot performance, carcass characteristics and muscle cut quality
  • The production and marketing practices of northern Plains cow-calf producers

Clint Peck, former senior editor of Beef Magazine and current director of the beef quality assurance program at Montana State University, will be the keynote speaker. Peck will discuss how to produce high-quality beef for global markets and Montana State University’s bovine viral diarrhea screening program.

The event is free, but the registration deadline is Dec. 22.

A free lunch will be served. The lunch is sponsored by the Hettinger Chamber of Commerce Agriculture Committee.
