David Ripplinger submits grant to USDA/NIFA/AFRI

David Ripplinger

Dr. David Ripplinger, Assistant Professor in Agribusiness and Applied Economics, has submitted a grant to USDA/NIFA/AFRI in the amount of $496,171.

The title of this proposal is: “Low-Energy Processing of Pelleted Biomass for Industrial Sugar Production”

We propose to capitalize on the greater hydrolysis yields resulting from pelleting biomass to enable lower severity pretreatments and quantify the economics and environmental benefits of these synergies. The potential for reduction in pretreatment severity has been demonstrated but the potential and benefits will grow when using biomass pellets (Chen et al., 2012).
