Title: “Engaging Leadership Development” Mini Grant
Presenters: Dena Wise, Associate Professor/Family Economic Specialist, Omega Chapter - Tennessee

Building the leadership capacity of Extension personnel is one of the primary objectives of Epsilon Sigma Phi.  Attend this session to get ideas for promoting ESP benefits in your state while providing leadership and professional development opportunities to members and non-members, as well as offer meaningful engagement with retirees. 

Title:  “Let Go & Let Volunteers Lead: Lesson Learned in Transferring Program Ownership”

It is more important now than ever to offer sustainable educational programs, necessitating the use of volunteers. This session offers a real-life example of volunteers taking the lead in health program delivery, offering strategies to move ongoing programs to volunteer leadership, enhance volunteer autonomy, and foster ownership from the outset.

Title:  “OSU Extension Competency Study: Developing A Core OH Competency Model” for Extension Professionals

Research was recently conducted to develop a competency model for Ohio State University Extension as we transition to a competency-based approach for human resource management. Through a presentation and discussion participants will learn about research results, including the model developed, and discuss implications and applications for their work.

Title: Crabby People: Techniques for Removing the Crabs in Your Life! 
Track: Emerging Leadership and Life Member
Presenters: Jennifer Klee, Woodford County Extension Agent, Family & Consumer Sciences, University of Kentucky and Ed Klee, Training Consultant, Nonesuch Training and Consulting, Alpha Kappa – Kentucky.

Ever met a crabby person?  Everyone has their own definition of how that person negatively impacts them and others.  It’s a fine line separating those exhibiting a positive outlook on life from those who become negative. The program will identify the crabby person’s motives and share four techniques for effectively coping with them.

Come learn with us as we share our University of Maryland Extension change journey with regard to organizational leadership and program delivery.  Seminar participants will be actively engaged in this culture shift process to date, which will highlight challenges, strategies and best practices from our experiences.

Title:  “Rebuilding Financial Security”

Rebuilding financial security during and following a recession worries everyone, but may be of greatest interest to ESP retirees/life members or “near-retirees”. This interactive workshop will present potential strategies for life and financial planning, credit and debt management, saving and investing, risk management, and retirement alternatives.

Title:  “Embrace Diversity, Not Just Tolerate It!” 
Track: Globalization – Mini Grant
Presenters: Marilyn Ming - Marketing/Public Relations Specialist, University of Nevada Cooperative Extension, Delta Chapter – Nevada

Join this session and learn that diversity is like a box of chocolates, no two pieces are the same. Organize and conduct a successful diversity training by discussing the issues, creating methodologies and receiving information on evaluation tools. All participants will receive a sample of chocolate diversity.

Title:  “Increasing Organizational Effectiveness & Engagement by Using Online?

Extension systems and professionals are facing reduced budgets, organizational restructuring, and increased clientele needs. We discuss new trends and the tools that let us communicate and engage with clientele. Most of the tools are free or available from eXtension.

Title:  “Extension’s Role in Developing Youth Leaders of Today”

Youth aren’t just “leaders of tomorrow”; they can be leaders today. As a public organization, Extension has a responsibility to help develop engaged citizens. Participants will examine youth leadership and civic engagement research and discuss how to apply it in the context of positive youth development.

Title:  “Program Evaluation Made Easy: Using Web-based Systems”
Track: Program Development
Presenter: Jennifer Bentlejewski, County Extension Director & FCS Educator, Tau Chapter - Maryland

Learn about a web-based evaluation system that provides statewide impacts useful for accountability and program improvement.  This session will demonstrate how educators select evaluation questions from a standardized set, leading to pre-post evaluation instruments.  Strategies for how these experiences could be applied at your institution will be shared.

Title:  “Building Stronger Relationships with County Partners”

Building stronger relationships with county partners is critical to the lifeblood of county extension programs.  One District is addressing this issue through outreach, education, and creative programming.  Building better relationships with partners, district subject matter teams are working together to address the emerging issues faced by citizens and local governments.

Title:  Everyone Growing through Today’s Organizations: How to Bring Others into an Meaningful Community and Keep Them

Organizations like ESP have valuable assets that can benefit new members.  But with the demands of time, limited resources and changing needs, recruitment of new members can be challenging.  Keeping members is a second challenge.  This session will focus on marketing the benefits of volunteer organizations and successful approaches to recruiting and retaining members.

Title:  “Building Better Board: A Workshop for Elected and Appointed Boards”

Volunteer board members which are the backbone to county and city goverance  may lack the skills and training needed to perform the duties expected of boards.     The Building Better Boards program  reviews  legal framework , governance and management roles, meeting management, organizational oversight, open meeting laws,  and accountabilty expectations of boards.

This interactive discussion will explore ESP marketing efforts and provide valuable input to the marketing committee. Activities include -- navigating the "new" ESP website / suggestions for effective use of site /new branding materials as local chapter management tools / how to market Extension on a Shoestring budget using technology.  Explore how the digital age and social networking can be used to promote Extension programs and initiatives.

Title:  “The Scholarship of eXtension”  
Track: Emerging Leadership
Presenters:   Debra Pankow - NDSU Family Economics Specialist and Patricia Swanson - Family Resource Management State Specialist, Iowa State University Extension
 
eXtension is a catalyst for transformation of the Cooperative Extension System nationwide. eXtension provides the opportunity for many great minds to work together to engage learners and make a difference in their lives. To succeed in academic settings,university scholarship definition must be broadened to reflect collaboration and engagement.

Title:  “Passing It On: Leaving a Lasting Legacy”  
Track:  Life Members
Presenters: Cole Ehmke, Extension Specialist and Kimberly Chapman, Extension Educator, Eta Chapter - Wyoming
 
Intergenerational transfer and end-of-life issues will be the primary topics addressed in this session. The discussion (and resources) will center around the four components of a lasting legacy: values and life lessons, personal possessions of emotional value, instructions and wishes to be fulfilled, and financial assets and real estate.
