NDSU sets Langdon Research Extension Center Field Day for July 16

North Dakota State University’s Langdon Research Extension Center, in cooperation with the Northern Canola Growers Association, will host its annual field day on July 16 in Langdon, North Dakota.
“Participants will have the opportunity to view research trial updates on crops grown at NDSU’s Langdon Research Extension Center and hear presentations from NDSU Extension specialists and researchers,” says Venkat Chapara, interim director of the center.
In addition, a guest speaker from Manitoba, Canada, will provide an update on current canola disease issues and management strategies.
The field day begins at 8 a.m. with registration and refreshments. A groundbreaking ceremony for the center’s new seed cleaning facility will kick off the tours at 8:45.
Session topics and speakers include the following:
- Canola disease management – Amy Delaquis, research and agronomy manager at Manitoba Canola Growers
- Small grain crop update and developments in disease management – Andrew Friskop, NDSU Extension plant pathologist
- Canola flea beetle update and Hessian fly in wheat – Anitha Chirumamilla, NDSU Extension cropping systems specialist at the Langdon Research Extension Center
- Herbicide symptomology demonstration – Joe Ikley, NDSU Extension weed specialist
- Monitoring soil-water and salt movement in seasonally frozen soils – Naeem Kalwar, NDSU Extension soil health specialist at the Langdon Research Extension Center, and Laxmi Prasad, NDSU Extension water engineer
- Varietal trials and cropping updates – Rutendo Nyamusamba, NDSU Extension research agronomist at the Langdon Research Extension Center
- Opportunities for improving soil health in Northeast North Dakota – Carlos Pires, assistant professor in NDSU’s School of Natural Resource Sciences
A lunch, sponsored by the Northern Canola Growers Association, will be served around noon after the tours conclude.
