Rupak Karn has joined North Dakota State University Extension as a precision agriculture specialist. He started in January 2025.

He will focus on advancing precision agriculture research and Extension programs and will divide his time between the North Dakota Agricultural Experiment Station and NDSU Extension.

Karn’s work will involve integrating cutting-edge technologies such as remote sensing, unmanned aerial vehicles and advanced data analytics to develop site-specific management practices for optimizing crop production and resource use.

Karn looks forward to collaborating with producers and stakeholders to deliver Extension programs.

“These programs will facilitate innovative technologies to improve farm sustainability, reduce environmental impact and enhance agricultural productivity,” says Karn.

Karn has experience working with various remote sensing platforms in the areas of fertility, pest management and spatial variability.
