4-H’ers Place in Winter Show Livestock Judging Contest

Youth bring home awards from the North Dakota Winter Show’s 4-H livestock judging contest.

Stutsman County’s team placed first in the senior division of the 4-H livestock judging contest at the North Dakota Winter Show in Valley City on March 10.

Team members were Daven Dockter, Bailey Dockter and Cheyenne Dockter, with Ceph Dockter as an alternate.

Logan County’s team placed second, Morton County took third, Emmons County finished fourth and Oliver County placed fifth in the senior division.

In the junior division, Morton County placed first; McHenry County, second; Ransom County, third; Burleigh County, fourth; and Kidder County, fifth. Members of the Morton County team were Jameson Ellingson, Stetson Ellingson and Sierra Ellingson, with Kathryn Goettle as the alternate.

The top individual winners in the senior division were:

  • First – Kacey Koester, Kidder County
  • Second – Shelby Larson, Stutsman County
  • Third – David Leier, Logan County
  • Fourth – Madison Wendel, Foster County
  • Fifth – Megan Gross, Logan County

Koester received the Mel Kirkeide Award as the top senior individual scorer. The North Dakota Winter Show sponsors the award.

The top individual winners in the junior division were:

  • First – Jacob Hauck, Dickey County
  • Second – Stetson Ellingson
  • Third – Caleb Cross, McHenry County
  • Fourth – Jameson Ellingson
  • Fifth – Zach Bear, Ransom County

The North Dakota Stockmen’s Association provided individual plaques for the members of the first-place junior and senior teams. AgCountry Farm Credit Services sponsored awards for the first-place teams.
