Pesticides and Water Quality
Pesticides are used extensively in agricultural production. Pesticides that are misapplied or misused can end up in water sources such as groundwater or surface water bodies. Proper handling, application and disposal of pesticides is very important. NDSU Extension has several publications that deal with pesticide sprayer calibration, spray nozzle selection, pesticide drift and other topics. Look here for copies of these publications.
Other NDSU Extension Publications dealing with Pesticides:
- Laundering Pesticide Contaminated Work Clothes
- Pesticide Safety: A Guide for Gardeners and Homeowners
- Pesticide Certification and Training Program – NDSU
- Project Safe Send. This program is conducted by the ND Department of Agriculture usually in July. Farmers, ranchers, pesticide dealers and applicators, government agencies and homeowners with unusable or old pesticides can bring them to several collection sites at various locations.
