Initial Certification and Recertification Guidelines

  1. Initial certification: Interns do not need continuing ed. Continuing education does NOT count as part of your initial 48 volunteer hours. Certification hours must come from the three categories explained in the guidelines. The educational service needed for Interns is defined as teaching, not learning.
  2. Re-certification: Turning in the minimum volunteer and continuing education hours guarantees re-certification will come in the mail. IF you've moved this year, be sure I have your best address.
      1. Turning in less than minimum requirements: you remain on the mailing list and "active" (a one-year unofficial hiatus).
      2. Two years of not reporting or reporting less than the minimum hours required will result in being removed from the mailing list and losing your Master Gardener status.
  3. Hiatus: If you are experiencing health challenges or family issues that prevent you from volunteering, please contact us. While you are on hiatus, please do not turn in any hours until you are back from hiatus. This will make record keeping easier for us.
