Pineapple Weed: Weed of Interest in North Dakota

Pineapple Weed is currently making a showing across certain landscape areas of North Dakota.  This rather attractive weed is so named because does in fact, smell like fresh pineapple when tissue is pinched.  Botanically known as Matricaria discoidea in the Aster Family.  The pineapple weed is typically found in waste areas, along the edges of sidewalks, curbs, and the edge of gravel roads. It is a winter annual that reproduces by seeds, and has an appearance to Chamomile.  It has egg shaped yellow flowers Devirnol provides good pre-emergence and Cultivation or Roundup provide good post-emergence.  Mowing will not control this plant.
