NDJCEP Meeting
December 11, 2007
NDSU Alumni Center
The meeting was called to order by Chairperson Macine Lukach. Present at the meeting were: Donna Anderson, Gerald Sturn, Vanessa Hoines, Jackie Buckley, Terry Gregoire, Steve Sagaser, Randy Greuneich, and Willie Huot.
Macine brought up for discussion the proposal on professional development that was submitted to NDJCP by Mike Rose. Deb Gebke is willing to work in it.
Discussion followed on:
-
Do the different professional organizations offer incentives to join?
o FCS - Nothing
o 4-H - One-half membership the first year
o NDAEA - First year is free
-
Where is it posted so everyone knows about it?
-
How is it communicated
There is a need to:
-
Identify training needs
-
Identify the core training needs
-
Identify by subject matter and agent specialties
-
Initiate a training on what is compiled in the new agent handbook
Mentoring is good the first year; but needs to be continued 2 to 3 years.
A suggestion for our committee was that - An informal survey with all staff members should be done to inform the committee what the needs of the staff are.
Length of Association Meetings
-
They are too long
-
Do not split meetings on the conference schedule
-
Guests at association meetings should come for questions instead of doing a presentation
NDSU Extension Conference
-
Conferences are too short
-
No time for networking
-
Are we addressing our real needs at conferences
-
Engage new staff at conference
-
Have more fun and levity
-
What is our passion in Extension
-
Willie and Gerald are willing to work on the structure of conference
o Recommendation from NDJCEP that conference be lengthened
o Recommend that the whole format and purpose of conference be evaluated
o Recommend that we bring our young staff to the table when planning conference
o Recommend that our association award winners need to be announced and recognized at conference
Duane suggested that Becky can compile the evaluations of past conferences to NDJCEP to look at conference length, purpose, etc. Conference traditionally is fall in depth training and spring offers updates.
