Small Grain Disease Forecasting Model

June 22, 2017 Over the last week, frequent rain events and high humidity values have increased the risk for infection by the tan spot and rust pathogens. Continue to scout fields for detection of these diseases. Fusarium head blight (FHB) risk is highest in northeast ND and will likely persist for several days. Scout small grain fields for growth stage (heading and flowering) and consider fungicide application. For wheat, the best time for a FHB application is early-flowering and, for barley, full-head. Remember only triazoles (FRAC 3) are labeled for scab suppression.
