Livestock producers will have an opportunity to learn about fencing construction, cost-share opportunities, fencing law and more during North Dakota State University Extension’s Livestock Fencing School on April 30.

NDSU’s North Central Research Extension Center near Minot, North Dakota, hosts the day-long school from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. The program will be divided into morning classroom instruction and an afternoon of hands-on demonstrations.

The morning sessions will include topics around North Dakota fencing law, virtual and energized fencing, precision agriculture and conservation and fencing cost-sharing. The afternoon will be demonstrations of energized and conventional fence constructions as well as fencing tips, tricks and tools that can make fencing easier.

“We want this to be an information-sharing event among producers,” says James Rogers, NDSU Extension forage crops production specialist. “Our goal is to create a learning environment where folks can share their fencing ideas and knowledge with each other on what does and doesn’t work.”

The program’s partners include Braaten Law Firm, Pheasants Forever and Quail Forever, Ducks Unlimited and the U.S. Department of Agriculture’s Natural Resources Conservation Service.
