Field days at North Dakota State University’s Williston Research Extension Center (WREC) are set for July 10 and 11. NDSU research scientists will share the latest research in agronomy and horticulture.

In addition to the agronomy and horticulture tours on July 10, the WREC will host a Stop the Bleed training for field day attendees who register prior to the event. Registration is necessary to secure your spot and ensure there are enough kits for the training. To register, please visit ndsu.ag/wrecfieldday or call the WREC office at 701-774-4315. The training will begin at 4 p.m.

The field day tours begin with registration at 3 p.m. CDT. The dryland crops tour starts at 4 p.m.

Tour stops and topics include:

• Stop 1: Maintaining markets with research information
  • Grain Quality: 2023 DON levels in durum and HRSW in western North Dakota
• Stop 2: Technology and management
  • The new Wintersteiger no-till research planter
  • Feasibility of growing a new oil crop in MonDak region
  • Intercropping and managing for in-field productivity
• Stop 3: Focusing on the MonDak region’s contributions to leadership in key oilseeds
  • Canola and flax varieties
• Stop 4: Foundation Seed
  • An advance look at NDSU varieties to benefit the regions producers
  • Varieties coming forward at the Williston REC
  • Optimizing the WREC seed increase program with commercial technologies
  • Stop 5: Protecting from weed pressures
  • Kochia and other weeds to monitor and control
• Stop 6: Cover crops: protecting our resource productivity
  • Cover crop demonstration
  • Cover crop mix trials
• Stop 7: Soil health and productivity
  • Changing soil conditions: productivity impacts and expected management responses at the WREC
  • Lime recommendations for challenged fields

A concurrent horticulture program starts at 4 p.m. in the Ernie French Center for those interested in flowers, gardening and fruit/vegetable production.

A free steak and lamb dinner for attendees will follow the completion of the tours.

The irrigation field day will be held on Thursday, July 11 at the WREC Nesson Valley Irrigation Research and Development Farm, 23 miles east of Williston on North Dakota Highway 1804. Topics include:

• Variety trials and intercropping
• Soybean diseases
• Weed trials at Nesson Valley discussion
• Managing resistance weeds in the MonDak region
• Nesson valley research update
• NDSU soybean variety trial and drought research
• Farm technology
• Flax and canola topics

Registration will begin at 8:30 a.m. and the irrigated crop tour will begin at 9 a.m. The day will conclude with a noon luncheon sponsored by Agri-Industries.

The WREC is 4.5 miles west of Williston on U.S. Highway 2.
