Emily Kline and Mary Berg have joined North Dakota State University’s Carrington Research Extension Center as area Extension livestock environmental management specialists.

They will be providing the information and education livestock producers need to implement nutrient management practices to:

• Reduce surface and ground water contamination
• Use manure nutrients more efficiently
• Operate and maintain livestock manure management systems successfully

Berg grew up on a farm near Driscoll. She earned a bachelor’s degree in animal science from NDSU in 2010 and a master’s degree in animal science from the University of Wisconsin-Madison in 2012.

Kline was raised on a farm near St. Anthony. She received a degree in agricultural education from NDSU and is working on a master’s degree in agricultural education through NDSU. Before joining the Carrington Research Extension Center, she served as the agricultural Extension agent for Sheridan County.

“Emily and Mary both possess excellent Extension programming skills that, coupled with their strong backgrounds in animal agriculture, will allow them to quickly become effective resources in guiding nutrient management practices that are environmentally sound yet foster efficient and practical livestock production,” center director Blaine Schatz says.
