Working Differently Focus Groups - December 2010

Two focus groups met in December 2010 to start the conversation about Working Differently. Summaries of both meetings are included with this article.

On December 15 and 21, 2010, two groups of NDSU Extension Service staff met to begin the conversation around Working Differently in Extension.

Each focus group had the same 3-part structure.

First each group reviewed and discussed the document "Working Differently - Toward a Fully-Engaged Online Communication Strategy." Much of that document has been used in the content of this site.

Next each group reviewed and discussed the "Cooperative Extension Future Backwards Model." This model was created by Anne Adrian, Rhonda Conlon, Kevin Gamble and Jerry Thomas, using the Cognitive Edge Future Backwards technique to compare and contrast past perspectives and present and future aspirations for cooperative extension. The model linked above is a hybrid of models created by many groups of extension professionals.

Finally each group was asked what changes would have to occur for the NDSU Extension Service to reach the "Heaven" scenario outlined in the "Cooperative Extension Future Backwards Model."
