Agronomy Technician

DescriptionThis position will assist with grant funded pipeline research and other grant funded research at the Williston Research Extension Center (WREC). Responsibilities include: maintenance of all research and facilities at the WREC; assist with reclamation plot research and management; maintaining seed inventory, planting, maintenance and harvest of field experiments; collection and analysis of data on diseases, plant, crop and soil nutrients, water quality from field experiments, and other important aspects of crops grown in agronomic trials.

Required Qualifications
• Associates degree in related field or equivalent related work experience• Experience with operating machinery/equipment, preferably farm • Experience working in a lab• Computer skills, especially Excel• Ability to obtain ND Pesticide License • Have, or be able to obtain, valid ND driver’s license• Good oral, written, and interpersonal communication skills• Must be able to meet the physical requirements of the position

Preferred Qualifications• Bachelor’s degree in a related field• Experience assisting in agricultural research • Farm background with farming experience

Agronomy Internship

The NDSU-Williston Research Extension Center (WREC) is searching for the best and brightest applicants who are interested in summer research internship opportunities. This program will provide students experience in agricultural research through crop varietal trials, cropping systems, and crop/pest management research. Interns will have the opportunity to gain experience in the agronomic programs at our dryland and irrigated research sites. Responsibilities Include: • Basic tasks associated with crop varietal trials including, but not limited to, collection and interpretation of data on diseases, heading date, plant height, yield and other important aspects of crops grown in agronomic research trials. • Assist project leaders in collecting crop, soil, and water samples, data from field experiments, and crop varietal trials. • Other duties as assigned.

Applicable majors include crop and weed science, general agronomy, agroecology, ag education, plant sciences, and any agriculture related majors. Applicants should be motivated, hardworking, have an ability to work in a team-setting, and physically able to perform under adverse weather conditions.

This is a paid internship and housing may be available. Successful applicants need to have their own transportation (and valid driver's license) to and from the WREC when not working. Horticulture Research Internship

The NDSU-Williston Research Extension Center (WREC) is seeking applicants to participate in a summer internship program. The goal of this program is to provide students the opportunity to experience horticultural research through varietal trials, landscape management, and crop/pest management research. Interns will have the opportunity to participate in the agronomic and horticultural programs at our dryland and irrigated research sites.

Responsibilities Include:

  • Basic tasks associated with horticultural crop variety trials including, but not limited to, collection of data on diseases, plant height, yield and other important aspects of horticultural research trials.
  • Assist with all areas of landscape management, maintaining fruit and vegetable gardens, and the use of equipment such as lawn mowers, tractors, tillers, etc.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Applicants should be: motivated, hard working, have an ability to work in a team-setting, and physically able to perform under adverse weather conditions.

Horticulture Research Internship Application


Seasonal Employment Opportunities 

The NDSU-Williston Research Extension Center (WREC) is seeking applicants for seasonal employment.

Responsibilities include:

  • Assisting with dryland research
  • Planting, plot maintenance, harvesting, sample collection and processing, and laboratory analysis.
  • Collecting data.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Required Qualifications

  • Ability to use Microsoft Word and Excel.
  • Ability and willingness to follow detailed protocol.
  • Comfortable working in a team or independently.
  • Self-motivated, hardworking, and physically able to perform under adverse weather conditions.
  • Willing to learn and operate field and laboratory equipment including but not limited to plot tractors, planters, harvesters, mowers, and threshers.
  • Willingness to learn new tasks.
