Virtual Communciation Camp - Planning Communication for Impact

Well-planned, strategic communication is critical to bring about the behavior change that many Extension programs aim for. Virtual Communication Camp is a learning experience designed for Extension professionals.Working both as a team and individually, you'll gain valuable communication skills, better understand communication and education in the digital age, and produce text, images and video that you can use in your educational programs.

Virtual Communication Camp was created through an eXtension Innovation Grant. We currently have a total of 19 people on 5 teams participating in the Virtual Communication Camp pilot,

  • Alabama i-Three Issue Corps team
  • Food Systems Certification team
  • Health Means team
  • MFLN Personal Finance team
  • Project Alpha team

Participants will improve their skills in writing, graphic design, photography and video production to support their programming. Most importantly, participants will learn how to plan communication for behavior change. Many Extension professionals engage in mass and social media without considering what they want to change, who they need to reach to change it or what they need to say to get people to act. We hope all Virtual Communication Camp participants will leave with a foundation in communicating for behavior change that they can use in all their programming.

Finally, the Virtual Communication Camp pilot will result in materials and a process that others in Cooperative Extension can use to replicate the experience.
