Exploring Ads
As you examine the advertisements, answer the questions listed below. Can you use these questions to be a more discerning consumer? (These are scans from a website, so you may not be able to read all the fine print)
Questions to consider:
1. What type of product is being advertised?
2. What year was the ad used?
3. What is the "claim" for the product? How is it supposed to help you?
4. Is evidence provided to support the claim?
5. If this is an "old" advertisement, does a similar product still exist today? Why or why not?
6. Where (or from whom) could you find more information about the topic/health issue shown in the advertisement?
