Soils School

We are offering a Soils School to producers of Stark-Billings during the 2021 season. The school will involve two classroom sessions and three sessions in the field to be determined. The first two sessions are scheduled for March 1 and March 15. Participants will receive a three-ring binder with soil related publications. Pre-Registration is required with a maximum of 15 participants in the school. There is no registration fee.


Session 1.              March 1, 2021, 1-3 p. m.  - Stark County Family & Ag Resource Campus – Dakota Room, 2860 Empire Road, Door C, Dickinson. Topics covered are Fertilizer Determinations and Fertilizer Economics – please bring generic test reports

Session 2.              March 15, 2021, 1-3 p. m.  - Stark County Family & Ag Resource Campus – Dakota Room, 2860 Empire Road, Door C, Dickinson. Topics covered are Web soil Survey and phone apps (soil web, nitrogen calculator, Google Earth, etc.

Session 3 - Location and date to be determined by participants of first two sessions. Topics covered are: Diagnosing Nutrient Deficiencies, and Drone Demonstration

Session 4 - Location and date to be determined by participants of first three sessions. Topics covered are: Soils Pits, Hydric Soils

Session 5 - Location and date to be determined by participants of first four sessions. Topic covered are: Soil Testing, Cover Crops

Instructors for the school are Dr. Chris Augustin, Director Dickinson Research Extension Center, Ryan Buetow, NDSU Cropping System Specialist, Dickinson Research Extension Center, Kurt Froelich NDSU Extension Agent Stark-Billings County
