Soup, Cookie, and Quick Bread Mixes in a Jar to the Rescue!

Soup, Cookie, and Quick Bread Mixes in a Jar to the Rescue! 9/21/18

Most of the back-to-school advertising and displays are disappearing or long-gone.  Day by day, they are being replaced by holiday advertising and displays.

These next upcoming three to four months of the calendar year can put extra strains on family budgets.  Not much ho-ho-ho about that.

To help reduce the financial stress of the holiday season, consider making gifts instead of purchasing them.  One idea is decorate jars that you’ve filled with homemade mixes for soup, quick breads or cookies.  They are fairly inexpensive to make.  Plus, they demonstrate your thoughtfulness, and the people who receive them value the convenience.

NDSU Extension has several recipes for homemade mixes-in-a-jar, including:
            Country Chili
            Homemade Cornbread
            Cranberry-Oatmeal Cookies
            Friendship Soup
            Herbed Quick Bread
            Snickerdoodle Muffins (Muffadoodles)
            Cherry-Chocolate Scones
            Peanut Butter Bread

Contact the Extension office to request the publications with these recipes, or find them online at
