Spring Fever

This week I had the privilege of hosting the first of the four spring fever garden forums in Forman.  One of the topics we learned about that was presented by Tom Kalb was new and proven vegetable varieties that are best suited for growing in North Dakota.  These recommended varieties have been evaluated and recommended from gardeners all across North Dakota through the North Dakota Home Garden Variety Trials.  Tom mentioned several new varieties that may be hard to find seed for in garden centers. If you have your eyes on a particular variety make sure to get your orders placed as supply is in high demand again this year.  For a list of the varieties that have been recommended for North Dakota visit:

NDSU Extension is holding their annual Spring Fever Garden forums for the next three weeks.  The forums are being held on Monday evenings from 6:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m.  On Monday, March 29, the presentations focus around the theme of woody ornamentals. Topics covered include an emerald ash borer update, hardy maples for northern landscapes and successfully growing roses.  The forums can be viewed from the comfort of your own home or you can choose to join a group of garden enthusiasts to watch it together in the courthouse conference room.  For more information about the forums contact the NDSU Extension Office.
