Golden Valley County Fair and Community Building

by Ashley Ueckert

Ashley UeckertIn the early 1980’s the Golden Valley County Fair Association constructed a new exhibit building.  At the time the building’s interior was left unfinished due to the cost of materials and wanting to pay for initial construction.  In the following years the plans to finish out the building have fallen by the way side.

Now in 2010 with a growing and aging population in Golden Valley County the need has arisen for a Community Building with ample parking, handicap accessibility, and a meeting space.  The community building will potentially be used for weddings, family reunions, class reunions, meetings and seminars, and other gatherings.  The Golden Valley County Fair Association has agreed to finish the exhibit building to try to meet these needs.

The immediate need is to recreate the flooring in the building, as the existing concrete has cracked and warped due to repeated freezing and thawing over the past twenty five plus years.  In addition insulation, sheet rock and a heating/cooling system need to be installed to make the building function as a community building.  The eventual finished project is slated to include a room divider to use as breakout rooms, and adding plumbing to add washrooms to the building.

The project timeline hopes to see the flooring finished in time for the 2010 Golden Valley County Fair in late August 2010.  The following year the goal is to finish the insulation, sheetrock, and adding the heating/cooling system.  The remaining parts of the project will be completed as time and finances allow.
