October 4 Horticulture Column

The sun is sure shining brightly today.  Really wants to make a person get outside and do something constructive.  My neighbors were all busy doing lawn activities over the weekend, primarily mowing up leaves and I could not get fired up for that as I knew we would have more leaves to mow again.  The wind will blow today and tomorrow and will definitely add to this chore, again.  We are also getting to that time of year to get our home ready for the long winter season ahead.  Have you cleaned your gutters?  I say what is the hurry, especially with the leaves still dropping in fact I have cheated and placed plastic covers over the gutter and that has helped a lot.  Have you checked around your home for any openings, for any little creature to enter?  It is never too late to get those types of projects done.  Speaking of which, with temperatures this nice it is also a great time to get those windows and storm windows installed.  I am going to be very short today as I HAVE  to get my wheat midge sampling done.
