June 28, 2010 Horticulture Column

What a weekend!!!  Work in the yard, a little fishing and a 10 class reunion.  The reunion was the years of 1970-1980.  It was great to see “old” classmates and spouses unfortunately I could not spend a lot of time in Edmore as it was also a sister-in-law’s 40th birthday party.  I did manage to get to say hi to everyone.  Sure brings back old memories.  For someone living close to Edmore I was not able to help to the planning committee through the process.  The whole group did a tremendous job of planning and working and my hats off to each of you.  The one thing that I did notice as I traveled to Edmore and visited in a yard was the damage Spider Mites are doing to our trees.  We have talked about and will continue to talk about the damage they do and how to determine if you have spider mites invading your home.  So please be on the lookout for these nasty will bugs.  This past week I also noticed different weeds growing in places that we do not like them to be growing.  If you are unable to determine what the weed is please bring it by and I can help.  There are weeds growing in our area that are not listed in the Wild World of Weeds and take some time to figure out what they are.  I have been swamped with Ant and apple tree problems this past week.  I will try to answer some of those questions on the radio on Wednesday.  The other topic is to talk about everyone’s yard and how good they look.  It is a great time to take a drive about and check out the beautiful yards.  If you find something you like, stop and ask and you should find your question.
