How Americans Save

How Americans Save

The slowdown in the economy has Americans watching their buying power carefully.  How are Americans stretching  dollars?   Some of the most common changes Americans have made include:

-         Buying generic brands

-         Skipping the coffee shop on the way to work every morning.

-         Brown bagging it instead of purchasing lunch

-         Scheduling visits to the hairdresser/barber/salon less frequently

-         Using a refillable water bottle instead of purchasing bottled water

-         Cancelled one or more magazine or newspaper subscriptions

-         Cut down on dry cleaning

-         Cancelled or cut back on cable TV service

-         Changed communication plans – cut back on cell phone plans, cancel landline phones

-         Carpooling or use mass transit

-         Change travel plans for the summer and holidays

-         Eat out less often

-         Selling old gold jewelry

-         Reduced or eliminated housekeeping or lawn services

        And my favorite –

-         Grow a Garden!
