Howdy!!!

The weather was really nice over the weekend and warmer temperatures are in the works for the upcoming week.  Every year Extension agents are asked to fill out the weekly crop report for out county.  This year is no different; however as I gave my numbers this morning I thought about the crop progress across the county and this year is very difficult to determine the percentage of crop planted.  We have had a tremendous amount of crop reseeded and in some cases even another time.  The weather was very cranky this spring with really nice temperatures, followed by frost, followed by nice weather, followed by very cool weather leading to another frost and finally into something more normal a little hear and no frost.  Can’t hardly believe it, no frost.  We have crops all over the board and advancing very quickly.  I am looking for some harvest to take place in July this year (of course depending on weather) but barley in the late stages of boot and some heading indicates that could very easily happen.  The crops in general look pretty good; however we do have some issues with emergence and unevenness of crop growth in some parts of the county.

Project Safe Send

Project Safe Send is available again this year.  Project Safe Send helps North Dakotans legally dispose of unused or unusable pesticides.  The program accepts any pesticides that are old, unusable or banned.  The program is open to farmers, ranchers, pesticide dealers and applicators, government agencies, homeowners and the general public.  The collected pesticides are carefully packed and shipped out of state for incineration.  The project is free and those with 1000 pounds of pesticides to deliver should pre-register 5 days in advance to guarantee acceptance.  A maximum of 20,000 pounds of pesticide per participant will be accepted.  So this means you can bring the smallest amount of an ounce or many pounds to get accepted for the project.  Please note: Fertilizers, surfactants, adjuvants, pesticide rinsate, empty containers, or containers of paint or oil are not accepted at the collection site.  There are Safe Send Sites across the state and if you would like a complete list please call our office or your local office for other sites; however below find the two closest sites for your use.  The two closest sites to Devils Lake is Cando on Tuesday, July 28 (address of 7411 68th Ave NE) and Larimore,  Wednesday July 29th, 1524 Towner Ave.)
