Happy New Year to each of you!!!

Howdy!!!

It does not even seem possible that the new year will begin tonight at midnight.  As I get older the time just flies by.  We are also just one week away from Lake Region Extension Roundup and as mentioned, it is hard to believe that another Roundup is here.  The holiday season has been one of many memories, already, and will continue to be as the grandkids get older and wiser.  They are already too smart for their own good.  It is a bad sign when you ask them for help with an I Pad and they have the machine running before you can ask “how did you do that”.  I also hope that weather warms a bit as I am really ready for a little warmer weather, I don’t like the cold mornings so far into the subzero.  It does make me glad that I am not feeding cattle like we use to; the tractor would groan with oils so stiff and grease acting like glue on metal,  the cows would get up from their warm bedding and come to feed with a stiffness, like I have now.  The only good thing I can think of from this coldness is the weather will be warmer in three months and soon be time to plant the spring crop.  With the spring crop also comes time for some new thinking of planting your crop and hopefully you can attend Lake Region Extension Roundup and catch up on new and existing ideas that can help you reap even a higher net return, on next years crop.

As we look back over the year 2013, we see many positive and negative things, but as the year comes to a conclusion we can be thankful for all that we have.  If you are reading this article we have health, some better than others,  we have family, we have friends and we have the thinking of what 2014 will hold for all of us.  What will the weather be like, will we fight with planting like the spring of 2013, will we dry out like we did in the middle of the summer season, will we fight the wet fall and get our harvest completed on a timely fashion and last but not least will the Minnesota Twins and Vikings turn back to the winning ways we would like.

May you have a very blessed 2014 and look forward to seeing many of you at Lake Region Extension Roundup, Tuesday January 7th and Wednesday January 8th
