NDSU Extension - Ramsey County

Wow Christmas is sneaking up on us fast.  So many things to do, places to go, and can’t keep my mind straight over it.  We are not only preparing for Christmas but Lake Region Extension Roundup needs to get thrown in the mix.  Speaking of Roundup, I have had many questions about the date of Roundup.  Roundup has always been, with the exception of last year, the first full week in January.  This year is the latest that it is.  The first full week means no holiday on Monday of that week as we need that day to get everything orchestrated and setup on Monday.  Last year we decided to hold the event early which meant that many of my colleagues could not help on January 1, understandable.  We do have a very good schedule this year, again, and do look forward to seeing you January 8-9.

I was in Grand Forks last week and listened to Leon Osborne visit about the upcoming season full of weather.   He did mention that he was a little off last year and laughed.  He thinks that much of the country will be facing very dry conditions again but hoping that our neck of the woods will fair better.  He thinks from sometime in July to the end of the fall season that temperatures will remain on the high side, again time will tell.  He does think that overall we are in a drier weather pattern, which would bode well for our lake.

Lastly, as I was driving into town after the big NDSU football win, Go Bision, I could not help but notice all of the Christmas decorations.  Deb and I always take my folks and her mother on a sight seeing night, to look at all the lights.  You should do the same.  It is amazing how many drive our neighborhood to look at lights.  Remember when driving, you should try to get to Mike Connors, east of Starkweather.  Mike has spent hours getting ready for a very nice light array and loves sharing that with any passer by.  Remember to please be safe with the extra lights and particularly with your fresh Christmas trees and wreaths.  They dry out very quickly and do need freshening up.  A little water misted over them does help extend the period of time.  MERRY CHRISTMAS TO EACH AND EVERYONE OF YOU. Bill
