Ramsey County 4-H Checklist

4-H Age4-H on lightbulb

September 1 is the starting date for ages and events related to the 4-H program.

Any youth who is 5 year old before September 1, but not 19 before September 1 is eligible to join a 4-H club.

Cloverbud

age 5 to 7 before September 1st of the current 4-H year.

4-H Member

must be 8 years of age before September 1st of the current 4-H year. An individual who is 19 years of age on or before September 1st of the current 4-H year is not eligible for 4-H membership.

4-H Horse Show Ages

Cloverbud exhibitor – age 5-7 before September 1st of the current 4-H year.
Beginner – age 8-10 of current 4-H year.
Intermediate – age 11-14 of current 4-H year (grand champion in halter showmanship advances to the junior division of the lake region livestock expo round robin).
Advanced – age 15-18 of current 4-H year (grand champion in halter showmanship advances to the senior division of the lake region livestock expo round robin).

Livestock Expo

Junior – age 8-12 before September 1 of the current 4-H year
Senior – age 13-18 before September 1 of the current 4-H year


Shooting Sports

Competition ages

Beginner – age 8-10 as of January 1 of current shooting year
Intermediate – age 11-13 as of January 1 of current shooting year
Advanced – age 14-18 as of January 1 of current shooting year

 

Year Completion

Fall of 1996 the Ramsey County 4-H Council passed the following requirement: Each 4-Her in order to complete the 4-H year must attend at least three (3) formal business meetings and three (3) club or county activities of their choice. A formal business meeting will consist of the following: parliamentary procedure, roll call, pledges, and discussion of the business of the club.

Dress Code

Members must wear white, green, or grey shirt with the 4-H emblem displayed or attached to the front of the shirt. At county events, a 4-H club t-shirt or 4-H shooting shirt is appropriate along with dark pants/skirt.

Horse show participants must wear a long sleeved button or snap collared white shirt with the 4-H emblem prominently displayed or attached to the front of the shirt, must wear properly fitted approved helmet for all mounted events, western boots, dark colored jeans, and a belt. English attire for English events is required.

Livestock exhibitors must wear closed toed shoes. A long sleeved shirt is recommended but not required.4-H emblem must be displayed on front chest.

Enrollment Form

Enrollment forms are due in the Extension Office by October 1, to be on the current mailing list.

Ramsey County 4-H members must have on file in the Ramsey County Extension Office a current year completed enrollment form by March 15, to be eligible to participate in Ramsey County 4-H Achievement Days.
